Lawrence Abu Hamdan is dedicated to the politics of listening, the use of voice, the ideology of free speech, and the construction of truth, as well as the concept of acoustic leaks. The lecture performance Birdwatching looks at his reconstruction of a Syrian prison based on the ear-witness testimonies of inmates.
The lecture is followed by a discussion on aural investigation with cultural anthropologist Stefanie Peter, moderated by Jens Maier-Rothe.
